Grapefruit Basil Greyhound: An Easy Refreshing Vodka Cocktail

The grapefruit greyhound is the perfect solution when you are in the mood to quench your thirst. Easy to make, (and easy to drink.) With the perfect blend of tangy grapefruit and smooth vodka, it is destined to be enjoyed all summer by the pool!

But why stop there? Let’s take this simple and classic cocktail up a notch with a touch of basil simple syrup! Not only will it add an extra layer of complexity, but you’ll impress yourself and your friends.

The truth is during this pandemic, not only have I had a lot of time on my hands, but my parents have had a lot of grapefruits! All Summer Long they’ve been leaving out a box of pandemic grapefruit for all the neighbors who walk by. So I had to do SOMETHING to help them out and get my daily dose of vitamin C right?! so everything coming by getting grapefruit I’ve been definitely making use of it and making some Greyhounds at home of course today thanks Mom and Dad for all the vitamin C if you like this video make sure to give it a thumbs up and I’ll see you back at the

The first thing you need to do is create your basil simple syrup.

Ingredients for Basil Simple Syrup:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves

Just as in my other cocktail recipes (Spicy Jalapeño Margarita and Chinese 5 Spice Bourbon Cocktail), you can change up cocktails simply by creating your own simple syrups. Combine equal parts sugar and water with fresh basil leaves in a saucepan, simmer until it thickens up, and voila! You’re a syrup-making master.

Now that you have your basil simple syrup ready, let’s make the grapefruit basil greyhound cocktail!

  • 1.5 oz vodka
  • 2 oz grapefruit juice
  • 1/4 – 1/2 oz basil simple syrup (to taste)
  • Basil leaves and a grapefruit wedge to garnish
  • Shaker
  • Ice

  1. Fill your shaker with ice.
  2. Add the vodka, grapefruit juice, and basil simple syrup to the shaker.
  3. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds, or until well combined and chilled.
  4. Strain the cocktail into a glass filled with ice.
  5. Garnish with a grapefruit wedge and a few fresh basil leaves.

Enjoy this refreshing cocktail all summer long!
