The first thing you need to do is create your basil simple syrup.
Ingredients for Basil Simple Syrup:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves
Just as in my other cocktail recipes (Spicy Jalapeño Margarita and Chinese 5 Spice Bourbon Cocktail), you can change up cocktails simply by creating your own simple syrups. Combine equal parts sugar and water with fresh basil leaves in a saucepan, simmer until it thickens up, and voila! You’re a syrup-making master.
Now that you have your basil simple syrup ready, let’s make the grapefruit basil greyhound cocktail!
Ingredients:
- 1.5 oz vodka
- 2 oz grapefruit juice
- 1/4 – 1/2 oz basil simple syrup (to taste)
- Basil leaves and a grapefruit wedge to garnish
- Shaker

Directions:
- Fill your shaker with ice.
- Add the vodka, grapefruit juice, and basil simple syrup to the shaker.
- Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds, or until well combined and chilled.
- Strain the cocktail into a glass filled with ice.
- Garnish with a grapefruit wedge and a few fresh basil leaves.
Enjoy this refreshing cocktail all summer long!
